BBC Children in Need is an annual British charity appeal organised by the BBC. Since 1980 it has raised over L500 million. Children in Need is one of most known charity in UK. Children in Need 2009 was a campaign held in the United Kingdom to raise money for Children in Need. Most money was collected in 2004, the final total was 34 Million pounds. A teddy bear named Pudsey Bear fronts the campaign, while Terry Wogan is a long standing host. The BBC's first broadcast charity appeal took place in 1927, in the form of a five-minute radio broadcast on Christmas Day. It raised about L1,143, which equates to about L27,150 by today's standards, and was donated to four children's charities. The mascot which fronts the Children in Need appeal is called "Pudsey" Bear, created in 1985 by BBC Graphics designer Joanna Ball. The bear was named after her hometown of Pudsey, West Yorkshire, where her grandfather was mayor. Next appeal show will air on 18th november 2011. Why did I choose children in Need? I've chosen children in need because there are thousands and thousands of children who are dying from starvation or they don't have enough money for food or clothing. So it is important that we don't forget about them.
